Hi, my name is Bill. I recently set off on a journey to re-learn and embrace the simple, yet incredibly powerful technologies of plain text, HTML, and CSS.
I created this site while following a wonderful HTML web book and tutorial I found called HTML for People by Blake Watson. You can check out this free web book at HTML for People (the beautiful illustration is interactive).
Tech I used to create this site
- plain text
- HTML 5
- the Simple.css framework
- the Lite YouTube Embed
- Visual Studio Code
I know... I probably triggered a few of you by listing the Visual Studio Code text editor. Yes, VS Code is overkill for a plain text website and is not the first editor that comes to mind when talking about making simple things. But it is convenient, particularly with the Live Server extension. I plan on using a variety of text editors for future sites to find a good balance between simplicity and ease of use. And no, VIM and Emacs (and all variants) are not simple text editors. 😉
🐘 Drop me a line on Mastodon (not really. I haven't gone federated yet, but I'm working on it!)
